“I used to think of Jackson Heights as one of the stops on the 7 train and the neighborhood close to LaGuardia Airport. Now I know it’s so much more.

Home to people speaking over 160 languages, Jackson Heights is known for its beautiful tree-lined streets, charming pre-war co-op buildings, and incredible architecture. One of my favorite buildings that I came across during this trip is the former Earle Theater, now home to Ittadi Garden & Grill, a Bangladeshi restaurant that we had the chance to check out. I liked their veggie and coconut samosas. Those alone filled me up. Little did I know, there was so much more to come.

It was great learning new facts about this neighborhood. It is a vibrant hub of South Asian culture and cuisine, and it’s also known as Little Tibet, Little Nepal, and Little India and others. It’s even home to the famous annual Momo Crawl. We visited the five-time “momo” champion – Nepali Bhanchha Ghar, which also happens to be one of New York’s Top 100 restaurants. The owner herself greeted us and made this trip even more fun by showing us her music videos on YouTube – she has a beautiful singing voice! Then, she challenged me to dance to her music video. Nepalese food truck also had mouthwatering momos. The owner was so nice there too! This was definitely a nice treat. So much deliciousness to write about and to digest for days! I’ll be coming back to explore Jackson Heights again soon.”
